York Rheumatoid Artritis Support Group

About YORKRA

The group was established by four RA sufferers, who, had continued to meet weekly, for lunch, following attendance at a patient education group at York District Hospital. We found the mutual support and understanding to be tremendously beneficial and, when an occupational therapist mentioned that there was a need for a support group, we decided to attempt this project. After much preparation, advice and support from the York Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), the Rheumatology team at York Hospital, the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS), and several local organisations, we held our first meeting in July 2007. Our membership has continued to grow, and we now have over 120 members, including 6 committee members (Lynda, Rita, Jenny, Margaret, Susan & David)

We are a friendly and relaxed group, and we aim to offer support and friendship to all RA sufferers and carers, with monthly meetings (except for January), information, resources, expert speakers, workshops, social activities and newsletters. We would also like to hear from people who may need help to attend meetings, due to disability, and from housebound sufferers who would like to have contact with the group. Interested professionals are also very welcome.
